Just flew out to Kingsville, Texas last week to visit my brother out in flight school. I have to say, I loved Texas. Now I just gotta figure out where the animation studios are out there and I think I'm set. It was a really great time, and I just wanna thank my brother Jimbo and all his friends out there for showing me that great time. Here are some pics from the trip, enjoy.
Well, Midsummer Night Toons I thought was a really really great night, filled with great films, great people, and great drink prices. I personally like to thank anyone and everyone that came out, cheered, and enjoyed themselves on Thursday...It really meant a lot to me. I'd also like the congratulate the other filmmakers of the night, specifically Matt Lee, Mike Carlo, AL Pardo, Gary Doodles, Matt Burnett, Ben Levin, and Kat Morris on all their hard work, everyone really turned out amazing stuff, and they all should be very proud. Now onto the film. For those who didn't get a chance to come down to the show last week, or just to anyone who'd want to see the film that wouldn't had otherwise seen it, I'm gonna go with my gut and post the film here on my blog as well (obviously) on vimeo. It's actually been kinda a weird decision to be honest. I've never made a film before, and have heard a lot about the pro's and con's of posting your film on the Internet... in terms of being eligible for festivals and other events such as that, sometimes they'd prefer you to not have your film online. If I can I'd love to apply for any festival that would have me, but until then, I just want people to see it. I just want as many people (who'd like to see it) to see it and enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. So, without and further interruption please enjoy The Adventures of manCHILD...Episode 2 - The Jungle.
Well this week has finally arrived! manCHILD will make it's debut this thursday, and I'd like to invite anyone who reads this blog to come on out that night to enjoy some cartoons and drinks at the M1-5 Bar here in Manhattan. This 2nd installment of Midsummer Night 2oons is being put together by Mr. Matt Lee, who also has a film screening that night. I've seen all the films, they really are top notch. It's gonna just be a fun night, you should really pop on by if you can. It's gonna kick off (by the way all the info is on the poster above as well) at around 8:30... I believe I heard somewhere there's a happy hour till 10, and best of all its free! DJ Pensatore will be spinning that night as well so really, i've just listed a whole bunch of reasons to come... there's no excuse now. In all honesty hope you all can make it and thanks for reading. Hope to see you there. manCHILD.
As of 12 o clock this afternoon I am officially done with manCHILD. Thanks to everyone and anyone who helped and supported me along the way! Be sure to come check out The Adventures of manCHILD June 10th, in Manhattan. More info to follow!
Recently I've been working mondays and tuesdays from home, so I get to take a walk around my neighborhood to grab some grub. These photo's make my neighborhood look interesting lol. Thought I'd share em.
Ive been working with the very talented Frank Summers on this pilot project over here at Curious. He has though been giving me some guff over my obsession with the iPad. At the end of the day today I drew this sad shark. Frank thought it was too too sad, and that I should make him happy. Then we both arrived at this. Thanks Frank! Great working with you. -Joe Caps
Yea, so yesterday on Easter Sunday I kinda had a little accident. I fell some 8 feet backwards off this deck thing at my cousins house and cracked my head pretty good. Spent the rest of the night at the hospital. (side note, I've never had to go to the hospital before so this extra sucked) Hopefully everything will turn out fine, I'm sure it will, but with head injuries you can't fool around no more. I just remember being a kid, bouncing back from anything, this kinda just made me feel vulnerable...Oh well, either way I hope the worst is behind me. In the meantime this has been my mental image for the past day and half. Hopefully more film stuff to come soon. Have a great week everybody.
Here is the first clip i've loaded up thus far of manCHILD. It is, as stated on my vimeo page, the end title card for the film i'm currently making. It doesn't reveal anything of the story, so I felt like it was pretty much harmless to post. I hope no one thinks I'm trying to be mysterious about my film...I'd just rather it be a surprise is all. But, I feel like this gives you a good first glimpse of manCHILD's character. Like me, little ever goes right. Hope you enjoy this tiny clip.
It has been a while since I did anything, and I also felt like I needed a fresh look on this blog. So what better to start over with than a blank piece of paper. Still working on my film, when I can find the time. Been super busy which is always great, but this film man, its like a god damn Cross on my back. I refuse to give up, tho, i'm gonna get this thing finished by hook or by crook. Hopefully I'll post something real soon from my film to see. But, in the interest of posting something right now...here are some pictures I took recently.
Well, i've never been a shameless self promoter, actually I hate talking about myself....however, I CAN shamelessly promote my brother James. Starting next week my brother Jim wil be flying this bad ass bird! It's a great birthday present knowing my brother is doing something so god damn cool. Go Jimbo!
Hey Hey, I just finished slapping together a short little demo reel from this years work. It's pretty short, but in talks with my good friend Ian Jones Quartey, he told me something valuable. He said it's better to show 10 seconds of good material then to have a 2 and a half minute long demo full of nonsense and throwaway material. Very very true, and unfortunately I am very very guilty of that on my last demo. It was made to only fit the song I chose (red flag), and full of stuff that probably just didn't need to be shown, or the individual segments just dragged out for to long. So, my last demo reel i'll just chalk up to being a young excited animator, desperately wanting people to like my stuff. I still hope people like my stuff, I just hope i've grown out of the desperate part. This one hopefully just gets the point across that i can animate, and hopefully well enough that you'll hire me one day. So there you have it...oh wait no you don't, because your gonna have to go to my vimeo page to see it. I've created a new link to my vimeo, under links on the right side, it's the first one. I don't know, I just feel awkward about showing animated characters that are heavily trademarked on my blog. It's just to show my work, nothing else, so If you'd like to see it, the link is over there. Have a great one. -Joe
Hello all, it is late on this saturday night, and Melissa and I have been up painting the Logo for The Adventures of manCHILD. I hope you all enjoy what we both worked very hard on.
You know i'm sick and tired of these stupid T Shirt's I see people wearing...Virigna's for Lovers, New Jersey only the strong survive, you know what, go fuck yourself asshole if your wearing one of those, i've got no use for ya. In the words of Karl Pilkington " 'm fed up". So, even tho this goes against my better judgement because I hate Ironic T Shirts, I decided I'm gonna make this shirt. Email me if you want it.
Here's one of the shot's I envisioned in my head as I was coming up with the first installment of manCHILD. It's basically the same style as the Charter Spots, but I just had to get the idea down. Now that I got it, I wanna start messing with it. Thought it came old cool tho.
Okay, so we knew about this a while ago, but me and Mike just found out they have a music video up on Leroy Smith's Website. This is rediculously awesome. Please please pleaseeee if your reading this, and you haven't gone to this site yet, please go...its intense.
So I talked to my good friend, Mr. Danny Hynes this morning... a character designer for The Venture Bros. on Cartoon Network, and I asked him for some of his character design advice in dealing with manCHILD. He thought it was cool, but if he had any suggestions just to pull the facial features together a little more. So this morning I did that, and just drew some faces I thought would show a range of expression. I've actually broken one of my rules here (manCHILD shall never frown), but for these purposes I think its fine. Hope they look cool...manCHILD.
Hey all, I have begun the process of working on my film. I need one, gotta do it, here it comes. The Adventures of manCHILD, staring this kid...I mean guy... .
Having a bit of a frustrating night right now...I hate taking tests. I over think things, and always do poor. So as you can see, I was procrastinating.
Hey, since other Charter Animated Spots have made their way onto the Internet, I figured I'd make my contribution as well. This was the spot I worked on from start to finish... it's an early version of the commercial which explains some cropping issues as well as other things, but all in all, it's the basic spot. I had a really fun time designing the Backgrounds and characters. I hope you enjoy watching it.
I just recently bought a Nikon D90, and have been fooling around with it, getting to know it. It's a lot of fun because i've never been the photo kinda guy but I'm really having fun with it. Here's a picture of my main man.
Hello to anyone who comes here. I haven't posted anything in a while, I was working on this series of spots for Charter Cable Service. If your from New York chances are you have no idea what that is, I know I didn't. Anyway me and the guys all worked on these commercials, I'm happy the way they came out. I had a hand in designing the Backgrounds to some extent. All the guys worked on their own spots, but in the end my design for the BG of Bird they thought fit the look they were going for. So, I basically was asked to just put my spin on their work, so yes to some extent their not mine but I still thought they were worth posting. I send out a big congrats to Mike Carlo, Danny Hynes, Ian J, Elliot Cowan and the one and only KANO for making it through this one. Congrats and Catch ya Later. -Joe
Yea, like I said above, I don't know where this came from, but whatever i'm gonna post it...I think it's tasteful. Oh, and my appologies for the previous post, I don't know what happened to the video, it got all messed up... I promise it's cool.
Hey, i did this today after work really quick. Can't waste too much time when i'm on the clock, but this was after hours...so i'm in the clear. I just wanted to do a nice kickflip. I'll eventually clean this thing up and post it for a real, but for today i think it came out pretty good. Go out and skate.
Ahhhh FLash you Villain...I just started up this job doing Layout. Normally I'm the guy just getting the drawing and animating but now I'm laying it out so it was just a little bit of a struggle to get in a groove. I think I got the hang of it tho, and now I'm doing okay. This is what I wanted to do to the computer screen tho, but of course i was out of ridiculous giant pencils.
I'm working on this spot and have been waiting forever to get some feedback. These peeps gotta get on the ball. In the meantime while I wait Spongebob and Gary took a ride.
Hey, I haven't posted in a while. Just been really crazy past couple of weeks, but since I moved out of my apartment, my neighbors Patrick and Jill took my old room, and as a room warming gift I painted a picture of their pup Murphy. I gotta print it out and frame it, but here it is anyway. Enjoy the room you guys.
Hey Dere All, this was a short I have been working on from home for sometime now. Directed by the main dude Kevin Lofton, bakgrounds by Liz Artinian, and Compositing by Ed Hawkins. I think everyone did a great job and I hope you enjoy. Be Well Joey Caps
Hey my birthday just passed, and my two roommates got together and painted this piece for me for the occasion. It's me and my new bike. This painting is probably one of the best gifts i've ever gotten, So another thank you to Mr. Yuri Fain and Mr. Danny Hynes... two talented bastards. I think i'm gonna have to follow this post soon enough with pics of my actual bike. More Stuff Soon.
Hello, it's been a while since I posted anything on my blog. I had a lot of fun drawing this, I'd like the pose to be better but there's always trying something again. I hope you like him, Happy Halloween!
